How Curemed Is Paid as a Broker
Curemed (Pty) Ltd, trading as Curemed Health and Wealth Consultants, is an authorised financial services provider (FSP 44098) and a brokerage accredited by the Council for Medical Schemes (ORG 163). This page explains how Curemed is paid as a broker when you take out medical scheme or insurance cover through us, so you can weigh our advice and our guides with that in mind.
In short
- Medical schemes pay us broker commission, capped by law. In 2026 the cap is R125.86 plus VAT per member per month, or 3% of contributions plus VAT, whichever is less.
- Insurers pay us commission on Gap Cover and other insurance we place, within the limits set by the insurance regulations.
- Our guides do not rank providers, and no provider pays to appear in them.
What do medical schemes pay Curemed?
When you join a medical scheme through Curemed, the scheme pays us commission each month from the contributions it receives, under Regulation 28 of the Medical Schemes Act. The amount is capped: for 2026, the lesser of R125.86 plus VAT per member per month and 3% of the contributions plus VAT (Council for Medical Schemes Circular 2 of 2026). The scheme stops paying us as soon as you tell it that you no longer want Curemed as your broker, and a scheme may not refuse your application because you do not use a broker.
What do insurers pay Curemed?
We earn commission on Gap Cover, short-term and other insurance policies we place, within the limits set by the insurance regulations. The regulations require this commission to be disclosed to you before you buy the policy.
Does payment affect what we recommend or publish?
Advice is based on a needs analysis under the FAIS Act, and if you take out a product as a result of the advice, you receive a written record of it, including the products considered and why one was recommended. Our published guides present figures from the scheme and insurer documents without ranking, and we disclose our own products where they appear. Our conflict of interest management policy is published on our policies page.
