Reasons to Love Spring
Watch for kites being flown and children riding bikes, for birds carrying grass to build nests. Look for trees turning green and baby animals making their appearance. A wonderful season full of colour and new life – Spring, what is not to love?
There is so much to do in South-Africa and with spring in full bloom, we would like to give you 8 reasons why to love spring.
Stunning wildflowers can be viewed along the west coast or you can go to Van Stadens Wildflower reserve or Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve to take amazing photos of the colourful carpet of spring.
Any time is the best time to watch whales. When whales have their calves, they travel along the coastline and you can see the spectacular creatures all the way from Hermanus to Port St Johns.
Sunshine calls for outdoor fun and as the sun’s UV rays help your body make Vitamin D which is important for your bones, blood cells and immune system, we welcome the sunshine and our time for outdoor fun.
Cycling can increase your cardiovascular fitness, improve joint mobility, and decrease stress levels. Enjoy an early morning or afternoon bike rides with hundreds of trails around South-African.
Hiking can be done for exploration, exercise, or reflection. Grab a backpack as spring offers the best weather for hiking and head to one of SA’s glorious hiking trails.
To spend some time amongst the spring blossoms with a picnic basket packed with sandwiches, fruit, and some sparkling wine can put you in an excellent mood.
National Braai Day is in September, we say light a fire and spend some time outdoors braaiing your favourite meat and a traditional “braai broodjie”.
Time to relax and take a deserved break, choose one of the stunning places to get away to celebrate the coming summer days.
We can see that peoples’ mood is improving and this then the best reason of all to make Spring your happy time.

Easy Strawberry Feta Salad – by Valerie Mitchell
- 4 cups of spinach
- 1 T Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 T Balsam Vinegar
- 1/8 t Black Pepper
- 2 cups of strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup of Walnuts
- ½ cup Feta Cheese
Instructions
Put spinach, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and pepper in a large salad bowl. Toss to combine.
Add strawberries and walnuts. Toss again.
Add feta and toss gently.
